California's fashion cred just got bigger.
The industry's migration to the West Coast continues: Following its previous cruise show at the Blenheim Palace in London, Dior plans to debut its Cruise 2018 collection in Santa Monica, Calif. Maria Grazia Chiuri's plans to stage Dior's next cruise show in Los Angeles were reported at the end of last year and, according to WWD, the event will take place on May 11 at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve within the Santa Monica Mountains, a first for the national recreation area.
Dior's announcement is the latest in a string of far-off locales for the next season of Cruise 2018 shows: Gucci will show in Florence at the end of the month, and Louis Vuitton in Japan on May 14. And while this isn't the first major high-end runway show on the West Coast — Louis Vuitton hosted its Cruise 2016 show in Palm Springs, followed by a slew of designers showcasing in Los Angeles in lieu of New York Fashion Week — Chiuri's choice of Santa Monica only further solidifies the LA region's fashion cred. Did you know the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center is based in Calabasas? Chic.
We've reached out to Dior for comment and will update this post as we learn more.
